What is the Assignment activity?
Assignments allow students to submit work to their teacher for grading. The work may be text typed online or uploaded files of any type the teacher’s device can read. Grading may be by simple percentages or custom scales, or more complex rubrics may be used. Students may submit as individuals or in groups

What is the Book resource?
Books allow teachers to create multi-page resources with a book-like format and table of contents. Multimedia may be embedded and books may be printed entirely or by chapter.

What is the Chat activity?
The Chat activity allows course participants to have a real-time synchronous discussion in a Moodle course. Different themes may be used (although note that you lose the conversation thread if you change mid-chat) and an accessible interface is available.

What is the Choice activity?
The Choice activity allows you to ask a question and set up radio buttons which learners can click to make a selection from a number of possible responses. They can choose one or more option and they can update their selection if you allow them. Choices can be useful as quick poll to stimulate thinking about a topic; to allow the class to vote on a direction for the course, or to gauge progress.

Custom certificate module
The custom certificate module allows the generation of dynamic PDF certificates with complete customization via the web browser. It is different from the certificate module, which requires PHP and FTP access in order to customize its appearance.

What is the Feedback activity?
The Feedback activity allows you to create and conduct surveys to collect feedback. Unlike the Survey tool it allows you to write your own questions, rather than choose from a list of pre-written questions and unlike the Quiz tool, you can create non-graded questions. The Feedback activity is ideal for course or teacher evaluations.

What is a File resource?
Files are not just materials such as word-processed documents or slideshow presentations. All types of files can be uploaded and accessed through Moodle, but the student needs to have the correct software to be able to open them.Different file types are shown with different icons. What is a Folder resource?
- The folder allows a teacher to display several course files together. The files may be of different types and they may be uploaded in one go, as a zipped folder which is then unzipped, or they may be added one at a time to an empty folder on the course page.
- Note that in the Moodle LMS, a folder can only be used for gathering and displaying files, not other resources or activities, unlike the use of the term 'folder' in other learning platforms.

What is the Forum activity?
The Forum activity allows students and teachers to exchange ideas by posting comments as part of a 'thread'. Files such as images and media maybe included in forum posts. The teacher can choose to grade and/or rate forum posts and it is also possible to give students permission to rate each other's posts.

What is the Glossary activity?
The Glossary activity allows participants to create and maintain a list of definitions, like a dictionary. While it can be set up and used only by the teacher, its main function is as a collaborative exercise. The Glossaryauto-linking filter will highlight any word in the course which is located in the Glossary.

What is the H5P activity?
The H5P activity enables H5P content created in the Content bank, or on the h5p.com site, or the LUMI app for desktop, to be easily added to a course as an activity.,
Make sure you download the newly created H5P file on the h5p.com site that you will later upload to your Moodle course to be easily added to a course as an activity.
If you are linking to H5P content on another site, such as h5p.com site, then you need to enter it as an allowed source (Administration -> Plugins -> Filters -> Display H5p -> Allowed sources). Nothing needs to be entered if you are adding H5P content to your course from the content bank or by uploading an H5P package.

What is the Lesson activity?
The Lesson activity allows teachers to create 'branching' exercises where students are presented with content and then, depending on their responses, are directed to specific pages. The content may be text or multimedia.

What is the Page resource?
A page resource creates a link to a screen that displays the content created by the teacher. The Text editor allows the page to display many different kinds of content such as plain text, images, audio, video, embedded code or a combination of all these. Pages are more accessible than uploading word-processed documents, particularly if the document just contains text to be read and not downloaded.

What is the Quiz activity?
- The Quiz is a very powerful activity that can meet many teaching needs, from simple, multiple-choice knowledge tests to complex, self-assessment tasks with detailed feedback.
- Questions are created and stored separately in a Question bank and can be reused in different quizzes.
- When creating a Quiz you can either make the questions first and add them to the Quiz, or add a Quiz activity (as below) and create the questions as you go along.

What is the Survey activity?
- The Survey activity offers a number of verified survey instruments, including COLLES (Constructivist On-Line Learning Environment Survey) and ATTLS (Attitudes to Thinking and Learning Survey), which have been found useful in assessing and stimulating learning in online environments. Teachers can use these to gather data from their students that will help them learn about their class and reflect on their own teaching.
- Note that the Survey is not customizable; if you want to create your own survey questions, then explore the Feedback activity.

What is a Text and media area?
(Formerly known as a Label) a Text and media area serves as a spacer on a Moodle course page. It can be used to add text, images, multimedia or code in between other resources in the different sections. It is a very versatile resource and can help to improve the appearance of a course if used thoughtfully. Banners or descriptions may be added here to distinguish between and highlight different areas. (Note that excessive use of multimedia (sound,video) in Text and media areas can slow down the loading of a course page.)

What is a URL?
A URL (Uniform or Universal Resource Locator) is a link on the internet to a website or online file. Teachers can use the URL resource to provide their students with web links for research, saving the student time and effort in manually typing out the address.

What is the Wiki activity?
- The WIki activity allows students to create a collaborative document by building pages together, similar to Wikipedia. Unlike other collaborative editing programs (such as Google docs) the Wiki is a standard Moodle activity and so no extra permissions or logins are needed.
- Although Wikis are usually collaborative, it is possible to allow each student to create their own Wiki for individual use.

What is the Workshop activity?
Workshop is a powerful peer assessment activity. Students add submissions which are then distributed amongst their peers for assessment based on a grading scale specified by the teacher.
